Ben Ripani

Ben Ripani is an indie folk songwriter grounded in lyric-driven honesty and artistry.  His music leans into restraint, letting simple melodies and unguarded words carry the weight.  Fragile and raw at times, his authentic style, combines rich instrumentation with stripped-back acoustic arrangements that invite listeners into deeply personal narratives.

Ben’s musical roots began as the frontman of indie rock band Down With Leo. Their 2007 self-titled EP was praised for combining “Manchester rhythms with the sensibility of The Pixies and Elvis Costello.  Down With Leo has perfected pace changes and sophisticated compositions to make every song interesting”(San Diego Reader).

In 2009, Ben launched his solo career with the album Hope Street. The record was hailed for its diversity and honesty, “featuring rich instrumentation and soulful vocals. Some songs are stripped down to only acoustic guitar, spotlighting Ripani’s poetic lyricism that certainly holds up" (Max Herman, Illinois Entertainer). Each track is described as "a cut that soothes but pulls at the borders of the heart, briefly mounting passionately in the refrains. Slowly, you’re dragged beneath in his understated gems, fascinated, realizing just how compelling Ripani’s music is, how subtly it works its way into odd angles and unruffled pleasure" (Mark S. Tucker, Folk and Acoustic Music Exchange). The song "Don't Cry On Me" from Hope Street gained wider recognition when it was featured in the season finale of 90210.

After returning home, Ben Ripani formed Ben Ripani Music Co. and released the Maladies EP, produced by Paul Von Mertens (Brian Wilson, Wilco, Poi Dog Pondering). The band toured extensively across the country, performed at numerous festivals, and earned a standout slot at SXSW 2011, winning over audiences with their emotionally powerful and captivating live performances.

Following a hiatus, Ben made a strong return in 2025 with the single "Weigh."  Inundated by a flurry of songs and musical ideas, he is now actively performing and recording, anticipating multiple record releases in the coming years.   With his authentic voice and captivating stage presence, Ben Ripani is an engaging performer who connects deeply with audiences, making him an excellent choice for venues and festivals looking for genuine, story-driven music.
